Madison Fire Department Emergency Services National Academy offers Wildland Red Card Certification, Hazmat Certification and Structure Firefighting Certification.

Numerous classes are held throughout the year. Click on the registration button below for current offerings.

Each certification class can be taken as a stand-alone course.  However, all three courses are required to be eligible for employment as a municipal firefighter.

Course #1: Wildland Red Card
Certification

$450

This course will certify you to work as a wildland firefighter for BLM, Forest Service, or Private Agencies.  Includes the courses S-130, S-190, L-180, shelter deployment, work capacity test, and field day.

This is a hybrid course. You will complete the necessary class work online and then complete all skills during in-person skills days on the Friday evening (6pm-10pm) and Saturday day (8am-5pm) of the last week of the course.

Approximately 8 hours of online classwork will be required each week.

Course #2: Hazmat Awareness and Operations Certification

$650

This course delivers the training necessary to provide defensive response actions for hazardous materials incidents.

Classes can be taken in any order. However, the State of Idaho Fire Service Training has specified that an individual will not receive their full Firefighter I certification until after completion of both the HAZMAT and Structural Fire classes.

Classes meet in person for 4 hours once a week and on an occasional Saturday.

Course #3: Structure Firefighter I Certification

$1150

This course provides the certification necessary to become a professional structure firefighter.

Firefighters attend 911 calls of all shapes and sizes. They ensure the safety of the public from the dangers fires and other hazards can create. They respond and assist EMT’s as needed, such as extricating civilians from a car accident. Working as a firefighter can be a rewarding job and provides many opportunities for advancement and growth if you want to make it a career.
